The Story of Kaachi Grand
Kaachi Grand, the only 4 star hotel in Paro town is the culmination of an adventure guided by love and legacy. Owner Sonam Tshering first set out to honor his grandmother, Aum Kaachi, by building a school. Then not only came a dream—clear and compelling—that reimagined the tribute as a sanctuary of hospitality but also Believing it to be his grandmother’s message, Sonam planted the seed of his grandmother’s warm hospitality in 2017 and, by mid-2018, set the vision in motion.
Taking their project management personally, after that the owner embarked on a 5-year journey to build a 44-roomed Bhutanese Architect design that respectfully blended into its environment. Sunny Drukla took on the role of Architect for Kaachi Grand and Jimmy took the role of Interior Designer, in what was to be his first hotel project. Together, they shared the same passion to create a unique hotel that reflected Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage that blends with modern amenities.
Today, Kaachi Grand not only stands as a living tribute to Aum Kaachi but also followed his philosophy to bring opportunity, training and skills into the local community: a place where Bhutanese tradition, heartfelt service, and modern comfort come together to warmly welcome the world. The Hoel is rated 4 star by Tourism council of BHutan.
Dechen Zam, also known as Aum Kaachi
Dechen Zam also known as Aum Kaachi was a woman of humble beginnings but with a kind heart that touched everyone who knew her. Born on January 1st, 1938 in Shaba Drugyeldingkha, Paro, Bhutan, she grew up to become a loving wife to Rabjam Thinley, with whom she had four children – Pem Zam, Euden, Tshering, and Karma Dem.
Aum Kaachi was known throughout her village for her exceptional cooking skills and love for serving food to others. She was always inviting neighbors and passersby into her home for a cup of tea or a meal, and no one left without feeling the warmth of her hospitality. Her house was like a gate to the village, as everyone had to pass by it to enter or exit.
